NEW LEADER ORIENTATION (NLO)

All new leaders must attend a NEW LEADER ORIENTATION (NLO) facilitated by their Service Unit Manager or Troop Support staff. Please visit the council website for NLO dates.

If there are up to 4 new leaders in Allendale, Cathie Smeedy is available to have the NLO here in town. Please contact Cathie at Cathie24@optonline.net for more info.


FIRST-AIDER

A Girl Scout First‐Aider is an adult volunteer who has taken Girl Scout approved First‐Aid and CPR trainings that include specific instructions for child CPR. Approved organizations include American Red Cross, National Safety Council, EMP America, and American Heart Association. (Volunteer Essentials, Chapter 4). Online courses are not acceptable!

Email a copy of your training card/certificate to troopsupport@gsnnj.org, with your name, troop info and service unit info (Allendale) to update the council training records.

OVERNIGHT ORIENTATION is required before you can do an overnight or sleepover with your troop. It is an online course.


TROOP CAMPER TRAINING is required for at least one adult per troop participating in:

  • Outdoor campfires or activities using indoor fireplace.

  • Camping when meals are not provided.

  • Camping when meals are cooked using wood fires, propane, butane, charcoal, or solar cooking.

  • Troop camping, not part of a community 'encampment'.

  • Although Troop Camper 1 (online) is not required to camp in a building, it is highly recommended. The online videos are full of useful information.

Troop Camper Certification is a two-part course. Both parts must be completed in order to be certified. Part 2 is an all-day in-person class held at a council camp. Please contact Rose Anne Weissel at ra@ldeo.columbia.edu with any questions.

WATER WATCHER TRAINING is required for adults taking their troops to any water activity where the girls will be in water above the knee.
